Tasmyn Hughes

Board Member, est 2016

Tasmyn spent most of her childhood in Brampton, ON before moving to Innisfil where she completed high school at Nantyr Shores. She grew up playing basketball as a child but stopped playing almost immediately after entering high school. Like most student athletes, Tasmyn dealt with social pressures and occasionally struggled with mental health, but her biggest struggle was to find a community outlet or mentors to work with. Becoming that person for youth felt natural. In her final year of high school she would meet Shak and - like most people - immediately felt a sense of home. She would then start her involvement in the basketball community, ultimately falling in love with the power of the game. This friendship would prove to be one of the most important. Tasmyn continues to reach for her academic goals through her studies to obtain her BBA.

Shak’s World is (and has always been) the community that we needed as young people and athletes. We believe team work makes the dream work, this means we can focus on pushing forward with the vision for our community- one youth of Barrie truly need.
